BOOK

Title:
The history of the late province of New-York, from its discovery, to the appointment of Governor Colden, in 1762
Creators:
Smith, William, 1728-1793 | New-York Historical Society
Publication:
Pub. under the direction of the New-York Historical Society, New-York, 1829.
Notes:
The society is responsible for some confusion by printing 2 vols. of Collections numbered 4. The first v. 4 (1826) without special title-page, bore the caption title "Continuation of the history of New-York", now first published. It was later decided to reprint the work entire, the new v. 4 (1829) being a reprint of "The history of the province of New-York from the first discovery to the year M.DCCXXXII", originally published 1757, while the "Continuation" was reissued as v. 5. A comparison of the 2 issues of the latter shows the following difference: v. 4 (1826) has 4 p. l., including (1) Series title, (2) Dedication, (3) Advertisement, with Notice by Society on verso, (4) Contents; v. 5 has only 3 p. l., including (1) Series title, (2) Special title "History of the province of New-York ... (2) ... 1829". (3) Advertisement. Vol. 5 has running title "Smith's continuation of the history of New-York.".
